The Dairy Farm Forum has been up and running for a little over six months. The farming resource and bulletin board has received consistent traffic and we have made some changes to try to improve the site content. Like any web-site we would like to see more interaction in the farm forum but, it is a work in progress and in time will catch on.
Recently we added the Farm and Ranch Classifieds, offering a free listing services for various farm and ranch related items that you may have for sale or trade. To increase the listing we are looking at contacting a select group of individuals and businesses advertising on other pay sites and offer a flat file upload service to improve getting ads up and listed. Sign up is free but restricted initially to ensure legitimate ads are posted and not spam ads or ads that are inappropriate.
General farming calculators were added a few months back and offer an excellent resource to determine grain, forage and volume results from the values you enter. There are some fun calculators like the dog age and marbles calculator just to mix it up. If there are other calculators you would like to see let us know and we will try to get them operational.
We added the farm and ranch voting polls for fun and to try to push some discussion in the forums. Send us something you would like to see polled and we will put it up for public voting.
The eFarm application is up and running and I am using it to manage my dog herd in a testing environment but offers much more. The eFarm project allows you to manage your farm equipment, employees, contacts, and detailed information on herd and sires. If you have not checked it out contact us and we can offer a demo login and password to see if it is something you can use. The educational version of eFarm is in the works. This has turned out to be a little bit more complex than originally conceived but by July 2009 we will be able to release a beta version.
As always we strive to keep all the services offered on the Farm and Ranch forum free. This will continue now and in the future.

I would like to start off by saying that my heart goes out to the farmers and their families who suffered the hardships this spring from the floods. When I worked for a dairy farmer in Nebraska we farmed some land that was close to the Missouri river and lost a lot of crops when the river flooded back in the eighties.

Growing up on a dairy farm in the Midwest were the most memorable and enjoyable years of my life. So much so that even when I joined the Air Force, at the ripe ole age of 20, and was assigned to my first base of assignment, that I soon found a part time job working for a local dairy farmer.
Now I’m pretty old school and have my ways and opi....... read entire blog |
